SCARBOROUGH (UK). 'SEAFEST 2009'
This with be the 10th festival.
During the Festival, they will be holding the annual Seafest Song Competition. They are looking for a 'Sea Song of the Year' - an original song - entry is free and the winner is presented with an individual trophy and certificate of 'Sea Song of The Year'. Entries are invited.

BREMEN VEGESACK (GERMANY). 'Festival Musik Maritim 2009.
Bremen-Vegesack lies on the River Weser and has a great maritime tradition: the first ever artificial port was created in Vegesack. The place was the port of registry for many whalers and was home to the biggest herring fleet in Northern Europe. The Captain houses, shipyards and maritime trade & industry give character to this northern district of Bremen. The maritime inheritance is still alive and during the festival weekend the riverside echoes to the sounds of sea songs and shanties from bands from all over Europe.

KATWIJK aan ZEE (NETHERLANDS). The 10th Annual Haring en Shantyfestival. This year to celebrate the 10th anniversary there will be 10 known (and less known) shanty crews appearing. Shows will be in the centre of Katwijk taking place non-stop over 5 stages. A special CD to mark the anniversary is available together with full festival details at www.voordemast.nl

August 13th-16th

SWINOUJSCIE (POLAND). The City of Swinoujscie presents the XXV Floating Festival of Seafaring Music.
The event this year will be based at the Northern Basin (Basen Pólnocny) and the Wladyslaw IV coast and will accompany the international yachting event "The Baltic Sail".

HULL (UK). "Sea Fever" 20th International Sea Shanty Festival. Choirs, Groups, Boats, special events, etc. The premier shanty event in the UK.

ROTTERDAM (NETHERLANDS). Rotterdam International Shanty Festival.
The Wijnhaven and the Oude Haven will be the stages for this year's International Shanty Festival Rotterdam. Wonderfully dressed choirs will sing songs from various shipping traditions. For three days, there will be a variety of performances on the quays, in the Havenmuseum and in the festival tent. You can also sing yourself as there will be a workshop for aspiring solo shanty singers.

DEAL (U.K.). The Deal Maritime Folk Festival takes place in the Kentish town of Deal, a few miles north of the port town of Dover.

There are shanty performances taking place all day on two stages as well as a traditional Irish group, a choir and a rhythm group with drums. An eel smoker will be giving demonstrations and various other ancient crafts will be demonstrated.

Set in a beautiful city with a strong maritime heritage, the festival features three full days of top international shanty acts. This year's line up includes Drijfhout, Four'n Aft, John Wright, Armstrongs Patent as well as many French bands including local favourites Les Pirates.
